We deliver expert European freight solutions including import/export logistics and specialist handling of ambient, chilled, damaged, and overweight containers across the UK and mainland Europe. With a dedicated team, modern fleet, and industry-compliant processes, TES provides safe, reliable, and cost-effective transport support tailored to your cargo needs.
We offer a versatile and specialised haulage service including ultralight trailers capable of carrying containers up to 32,210kgs, and our own genset trailers, which are more cost-effective than hiring from depots. Our European haulage fleet includes curtainsiders, container chassis, and fridge trailers, while our tank-trained and ADR-certified drivers handle everything from standard tanktainers to Class 1 explosives. We’re the trusted haulier for two major shipping lines when it comes to damaged containers, and we operate a modest warehouse for palletised devan and storage. Our low-ride trailers can handle over-height cargo in the UK and 40′ high-cubes into Europe, navigating lower bridge restrictions with ease. We also provide curtainsider services across the UK and Europe, container storage using spare trailers and yard space to help clients avoid quay rent, and a night shunting service that ensures pre-loaded deliveries are ready to go, improving reliability across the board.
Strategically located near the UK’s busiest container port, we are dedicated to minimising downtime and optimising supply chain efficiency for our clients. Whether transporting hazardous goods under strict safety regulations or managing seamless European traction services, Transport Equipment Services is your trusted logistics partner, committed to delivering exceptional service. UK & European Haulage FAQs
How do I book container haulage with Transport Equipment Services?
Booking is straightforward. You can contact our team by phone or through the enquiry form with your container details, including port of collection, delivery location, container size and any specific requirements. Our team will review the information and confirm availability, pricing and scheduling.
What information do you need to provide an accurate quote?
To provide an accurate quote, we require the container size (20ft, 40ft, high cube), collection port, delivery postcode, weight of the container, and any special requirements such as hazardous classification, overweight loads or access restrictions. The more detail provided, the more precise the quotation will be.
How does the container haulage process work from booking to delivery?
Once a booking is confirmed, we schedule collection from the port using the required release references. The container is collected by one of our drivers and transported directly to the delivery location. Our team coordinates the timing and keeps you informed throughout the process to ensure a smooth delivery.
How quickly can you collect a container from Felixstowe?
In most cases, we can arrange collection within 24 to 48 hours, depending on availability, port clearance and booking requirements. For urgent jobs, we will always do our best to prioritise and arrange a faster collection where possible.
What happens if there are delays at the port?
Port delays can occur due to congestion, customs clearance or documentation issues. If delays arise, we will keep you informed and adjust the collection schedule accordingly. Any additional charges such as demurrage or storage are typically controlled by the port or shipping line.
Can you work to timed deliveries or site booking slots?
Yes, we regularly deliver to sites with strict booking times, including warehouses, distribution centres and construction sites. We coordinate delivery schedules to meet your required time slots wherever possible.
How is container haulage pricing calculated?
Pricing is based on several factors including distance from port to delivery location, container size, weight, fuel costs, and any specialist requirements such as ADR transport or crane offload. Each job is quoted individually to ensure accuracy.
Are there additional charges for delays or waiting time?
Additional charges may apply if there are significant delays outside of our control, such as waiting time at delivery sites, port congestion, or failed delivery attempts. We aim to highlight any potential costs in advance wherever possible.
What access is required for container delivery?
Delivery locations must be accessible for articulated vehicles. This includes adequate road width, turning space and a suitable surface for unloading. If access is restricted, alternative arrangements may be required.
Can you deliver to sites with restricted or difficult access?
Yes, we regularly deliver to sites with access limitations. In these cases, we assess the location in advance and may recommend alternative equipment or delivery methods to ensure the job can be completed safely.
What happens if a container cannot be delivered due to site constraints?
If delivery cannot be completed due to access or safety issues, the container may need to be returned to a holding location or rescheduled. Our team will work with you to find the most practical solution.
What paperwork is required for container collection?
A valid container release reference and booking details are required before collection can be made from the port. Our team will guide you through the requirements to ensure everything is in place.
Who is responsible for customs clearance?
Customs clearance is typically handled by the importer or their appointed freight forwarder. We can coordinate with your logistics partners to ensure collection is arranged once clearance has been completed.
Is my cargo insured during transport?
We operate under standard transport conditions, and goods are covered in line with industry regulations. If additional insurance is required for high-value cargo, we recommend arranging this in advance.
Can you store containers if delivery is not immediately possible?
Yes, we can assist with short-term and also long-term storage solutions if delivery cannot be completed immediately. This allows flexibility when coordinating onward transport or site readiness.
Do you work with freight forwarders and logistics companies?
Yes, we regularly work alongside freight forwarders, shipping agents and logistics providers, supporting both one-off shipments and ongoing transport requirements.
Do you offer both one-off jobs and ongoing haulage contracts?
We support both single container movements and long-term haulage partnerships. Our services are flexible to suit businesses with occasional shipments or regular transport needs.
